Vaccination Requirements Dog Vaccine Requirements

Doodle Dogs Dog Boarding requirements follow the 2006 AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) Canine Vaccine Guidelines, as revised and summarized below. Ask your veterinarian if your dog is up to date per our requirements and bring documentation with you when your dog comes to stay.

Rabies/Distemper/Parvo/Adenovirus-2: Traditional 3 part Puppy series, a booster at one year, and then every 3 years.

NOTE: Vaccinations may take up to 14 days, once given; to provide full immunity to your dog, with the exception of the Bordatella NASAL spray, which only takes up to 4 days.

Bordatella for Kennel Cough-Either Intranasal (preferred) or injectable: An initial 2 part series, followed by a booster every 6 months

For Your Dog’s Safety,  Dog Safety

Please Remember - Kennel Cough never takes a vacation!!

Kennel cough, or canine infectious tracheobronchitis, is a highly contagious, upper respiratory infection that presents similarly to the common cold; however there are rare complications, particularly for the young, the old, and the immune compromised. It is typically caused by a combination of a bacteria (Bordatella) and a virus. Ideally your dog would be vaccinated for Parainfluenza also, as Parainfluenza is the virus most commonly appearing together with Bordetella in infectious kennel cough. Some kennel cough vaccines protect against both.

In addition, we require an annual Elisa Fecal Test, showing that your dog is negative for Giardia and other parasites. A floatation or smear will not suffice.  Your veterinarian will most likely send the fecal sample to an overnight lab providing results the next day, unless your veterinarian’s lab is equipped to run a SNAP Elisa test in their office. Please plan ahead and have the giardia testing done in advance of a scheduled stay. Many clients are surprised to find out their dog is giardia positive. In this case, the dog must be treated with a simple medication and follow up with another Elisa test showing that the treatment was successful before their stay at Doodle Dogs.

For the owner that prefers not to wait for overnight results, Northwest Animal Hospital offers an in-house SNAP Elisa Test:  7107 West Fairview Avenue, Boise Idaho 83704, (208) 375-2700, for approximately $47.00.  Please phone to verify testing availability and current testing cost.

Alternatively, if you prefer, you may provide a titer level from your vet showing that your dog still has immunity from previous vaccinations and does not currently need to be revaccinated for any of Doodle Dogs required vaccinations listed above. However, if your dog does not receive the giardia vaccine, a current, negative fecal test will always be required 1 month prior to the first stay and then annually.

If you can provide documentation that your dog has an immune compromising condition, a seizure disorder, or has previously had a severe reaction to vaccination, I can make an exception. In lieu of a vaccination record I will accept:

  • A giardia negative fecal test
  • Documentation of a healthy physical exam stating no current symptoms of kennel cough or fever, within 1 month prior to the first stay and annually thereafter
